New director of the Antonín Dvořák Birth House in Nelahozeves Professor Samuel McGuire
It is our honor to introduce the new director of the Antonín Dvořák Birth House in Nelahozeves, Professor Samuel McGuire, former Associate Chair of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies at University of Colorado Denver. A renowned music expert, he spent almost two decades in academia at American universities, where he held a number of important research and leadership positions. His lifelong passion for music has developed into a multifaceted body of work that has resulted in successful projects focused on film scores, music composition, audio and video production, and social media. His publishing activity is also significant. He was chosen for the position of director on the basis of the recommendation of a seven-member selection committee that assessed the projects of participants registered in the open tender.
As the new director of the Antonín Dvořák Birth House, Professor McGuire will take charge of the overall management of this important cultural monument and will also participate in the development of educational, cultural and social programs that the museum and creative center will offer. He has spent long periods of time in the Czech Republic, and has regularly participated in summer programs and internships organized by the House of Lobkowicz with students from University of Colorado Denver. It has been his long-term dream to relocate to the Czech Republic permanently and get involved in a socially beneficial and meaningful project centered on music. His international reputation as a recognized music expert will be essential for building cross-institutional relationships and music programs with international participation.

As the director, I will make sure that the House of Lobkowicz continues to thrive as a guardian of Dvořák’s legacy, whilst upholding the core values of the institution," says Professor McGuire of his new role. He takes up the position of director on January 8, 2024, so that he can be present during the finalization of the project before its opening. The opening of the Antonín Dvořák Birth House is planned for April 2024.
